Business Inclusion

Our Guiding Principle

"Michigan State University is guided by values that are embedded in our rich heritage as a leading land-grant university and our current position as a world-grant institution among the best universities in the world.  Foremost among our values is inclusion." — MSU President, LouAnna K. Simon

MSU’s commitment to inclusion is reflected in our values, our student population, faculty and staff, and those with whom we do business. Through our Business Inclusion Program, Purchasing is dedicated to ensuring we have integrated a diverse supplier base into our strategic sourcing and procurement processes.

Our goals include

  • growing our outreach and educational efforts
  • developing a diverse supplier base
  • measuring our effectiveness as we look for ways to positively impact the communities in which we serve
  • capturing metrics and reporting them annually to the Office for Inclusion & Intercultural Initiatives

Purchasing leadership recognizes the importance of a diverse MSU supplier base and seeks to promote a culture within the buying community that demonstrates inclusive procurement practices. We are, as a unit, collectively responsible for the program’s success.

The Business Inclusion Program, including Tier II opportunity, supports our business strategy and is aligned with President Simon’s MSU Inclusion Statement.
