University Services manages the MSU supply chain, providing expertise in acquiring and managing goods and services.

Whether it's helping acquire materials for ground-breaking research or navigating the ever-changing environment of global import and exports, University Services supports MSU's educational, research, and outreach missions.



Purchasing is responsible for competing, contracting, and issuing orders for goods and services that support MSU's mission. Through strategic sourcing, Purchasing reduces costs and improves efficiencies—while complying with university, state and federal laws, policies, and regulations.

Purchasing Methods at MSU

  • Spartan Marketplace provides a convenient way to make departmental purchases using contracted pricing.
  • The Pcard is used for low-dollar purchases. Pcards provide flexibility and convenience.
  • Purchase orders are used to obtain items that can’t be purchased using aPcard or are not available through Spartan Marketplace.

Accounts Payable

Accounts Payable processes invoice payments for purchases made through the Finance System.

Logistics is responsible for the distribution of inbound and outbound university shipments. We provide expertise on import and export compliance, hazardous materials shipping, and offer an Event Material Management service to transport conference and exhibit items to and from events.


Track on-campus packages by carrier number, PO, release or requisition number using U-Track.

University Stores

University Stores is a warehouse facility where commonly used, high-volume items are stocked and distributed.                       

The University Stores catalog is located within Spartan Marketplace. Orders may be placed using an MSU account number. Once logged in with an MSU NetID, click on the Spartan Marketplace tile located on the homepage of EBS. You may also login directly at marketplace.msu.edu.

Warehouse storage

University Stores provides heated storage space in its secure warehouse.

Materials are stored on 4 x 4 foot pallets.
  • Pickup and delivery of material is free of charge.
  • The rental rate for heated storage space is $16 per pallet per month.
  • This service is not available for personal items.



Capital Asset Management

Did you know there are more than 19,000 pieces of capital equipment on campus?


Capital Asset Management oversees the university’s movable capital equipment and tracks it from the date of acquisition to the date of disposal. A physical inventory of assets is conducted annually.

Federal guidelines and MSU policy requires that CAM maintain and track all equipment over $5,000.

Mail Services

At Mail Services, we

  • manage the MSU mail permit and postage funding
  • act as the liaison between the US Postal Service and MSU
  • fold and insert First Class mail into a window envelope
  • perform billing activities
  • ensure supplier compliance

Service Requests 

Service Request Forms are required for campus pickup of parcels or mail and act as departmental authorization for Logistics to ship materials.
